I have a ministry supporter and every time they see me they say “suddenly!” It is one of those private jokes no one else is privy to, but they are referring back to a meeting where I was ministering on the suddenlies of God, and the place was shaken with the power of God in an incredible way. I don’t think anyone who attended that meeting will ever be the same again, including myself!

In Acts 2:1-2 there is a ‘suddenly’ recorded: “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.”

When it is God’ time to move, He moves and He does it suddenly! God had waited thousands of years for the right time to move. He had spoken to the prophets throughout the centuries about the Messiah and the change He would bring to the world. And after Christ came, rose from the dead and ascended to heaven, God held back no longer, a great dam burst in heaven and the Holy Ghost hit that place like tidal wave, like a lightening bolt, like a mighty rushing wind!

The disciples in that upper room had no idea what they were in for, and I’m sure they got far more than they bargained for. It was probably a frightening experience for some of them. But God knew they needed this suddenly, they needed some Holy Ghost shock treatment! They were fearful, timid, shy, unfaithful, halfhearted, then all of a sudden, they were transformed. They became bold preachers of the gospel. Daring to believe God for the impossible, they walked in the realm of miracles, with explosive results. Many of them gave up their very lives for the sake of the gospel. Suddenly everything had changed.

And sometimes we have followed God so long and we haven’t seen the results we had hoped for, and sometimes we have given up hope that God will move in our circumstances. Sometimes it looks like God is holding back for some reason or another, and we wonder ‘when is God going to move in my circumstances!?’

Friend, I want to encourage you God may be saving it up and holding it back for a mighty suddenly to break forth in your life! I want to encourage you, keep following God, keep being obedient to His word, keep doing what is right, because God is keeping the score, and when it is His time to move, watch out world!

I believe God is saying this is a time when He will move suddenly in our lives. The power of God is released when God moves suddenly. Miracles happen when God moves suddenly. God’s promises are fulfilled when God moves suddenly. All of heaven breaks loose when God moves suddenly.

And God moves suddenly in bringing His blessing to our lives. The bible tells us the blessings of God will hunt you down and overtake you if you are obedient to God (Deut. 28:2) And some of us have waited so long for breakthrough, we have faithfully followed God, done what He has told us to do and we are ready for a “suddenly,” we are ready for the blessing of God to chase us down, sideswipe us and overtake us!

God is saying when I move suddenly it will be faster than you, I will come swiftly and overtake you with blessing. God is saying suddenly He will hunt you down and chase you down and before you know what has happened, you will have been moved to a place of overflow and abundance.

And I don’t know why God works this way, many times He waits until the eleventh hour to move, sometimes its the midnight hour before He moves. Someone said God is never early, he’s never late, but He’s always on time! And you may be at that midnight hour time of your life, wondering where God is, I want to encourage you to hang in there for God to move, because when He does, it will be suddenly.

And you may be faced with a situation that has you locked up, you feel trapped with no way out, no hope in sight. God has a suddenly for you. In Acts 16:25-26, Paul and Silas were locked in prison, and they just began to praise God in verse 25 it says “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody’s chains came loose.”

Notice it says here, about midnight, and that’s where you may be in the midnight hour, be encouraged, keep praising and blessing God, keep focussed on His power, don’t let those circumstances get you down, a great earthquake is about to come and shake you loose! A great shaking is coming to all those circumstances holding you back, holding you down. When God moves it is sudden, violent and forceful, no prison cell can stand before the power of God, no circumstance can stand in the way of God when He decides to move.

I want to encourage you to stand fast today, no matter what your circumstances may be. Hold fast to the profession of your faith, God won’t be able to hold back any longer and at some point you will be visited with a suddenly of God that will take away your breath. Hang in there, God is about to move in your life.
