Proverbs 28:19a tells us, “where there is no vision the people perish.” Our ability to dream, I believe, is one of the things which sets us apart in all of God’s creation. We are made in God’s image and having a dream for the future, is what we are created to do. When we don’t function that way we lose our hope and sense of purpose in life. The ability to dream and see it’s fulfillment is a wonderful God-given privilege. In life there are many ways in which our dreams can be challenged and today I want to encourage you; if you have a God-given dream for your life, don’t give up on your dreams!

Acts 2:17 says “In the last days, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.” When God starts to move and His Spirit is poured out, people begin to be restored to do what they were created to do. I love how this Scripture says, ‘your old men will dream dreams.’ You are never to old to dream, and it’s never to late to begin to dream again. The Spirit of God is always at work to inspire us to believe God for great things!

Everything we achieve in life begins with some dream or aspiration we hold. As children we dream of being a fireman, or a famous sports star. Children love to dream, and I believe God made all human beings that way. It’s as we are faced with the realities of life we begin to make compromises to the dreams we have in life. And some of us have dreams we have received from God for the future and as the course of time passes, we wonder if those dream will ever become a reality.

Not everyone will celebrate a dreamer. Consider Joseph’s brothers. He shared his dream with them and they responded: “‘Here comes that dreamer!’ they said to each other, come now, let’s throw him into one of these cisterns, and say that a ferocious animal devoured him. Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.” (Genesis 37:20)

There are people in this world that would love nothing more than to see your dreams shattered. They have their reasons, some are insecure and threatened by dreamers, some have had broken dreams of their own, some have no dreams and think you should be like them and keep your feet firmly on the ground.

I want to encourage you today, dreams are always the birthplace of great things in God. Anyone who ever did anything great for God always began with nothing more than a dream in their heart. You carry the responsibility to nurture that dream, to protect it and work with God’s Spirit to allow it come to come to pass.

I want to quote the late Myles Monroe, his thoughts on dreams are very powerful:

“The wealthiest spot on this planet is not the oil fields of Kuwait, Iraq, or Saudi Arabia. Neither is it the gold and diamond mines of South Africa, the uranium mines of the Soviet Union, or the silver mines of Africa. Though it may surprise you, the richest deposits on our planet lie just a few blocks from your house. They rest in your local cemetery or graveyard.

Buried beneath the soil within the walls of those sacred grounds are dreams that never came to pass, songs that were never sung, books that were never written, paintings that never filled a canvas, ideas that were never shared, visions that never became reality, inventions that were never designed, plans that never went beyond the drawing board of the mind, and purposes that were never fulfilled.

One of the greatest tragedies in life is to watch potential die untapped. Only a small percentage of the 7 billion people on this planet will experience a significant portion of their true potential. Are you a candidate for contributing to the wealth of cemetery? Don’t go to the grave with your treasure within you.”

It takes courage to follow a dream; there is a price to pay! And of course with all dreams there is a gestation period and then a manifestation period. So many abort the dream God has given them before they have allowed it to be carried to the full term of manifestation. Think for a moment about Mary, the mother of Jesus. She had been visited by an Angel and told she would bring Jesus into the world.

What a tremendous responsibility! And Mary had to protect that Child, and carry all the responsibilities of bringing a child into the world along with her husband. But this child changed the world! And it is similar with any God given dream. It must be nurtured. It must be protected and allowed time to grow and reach a place of full manifestation.

And there are financial sacrifices, time sacrifices, all kinds of sacrifices, but in the end when the time comes for the birth and the manifestataion of the fulfillment there will be a time of incredible joy. At that time it will all seem worth is. Jesus said it like this: “It will be like a woman suffering the pains of labor, when her child is born, her anguish gives way to joy, because she has brought a new baby into the world.” (John 16:21) Now Jesus was talking about his death and the new life of the resurection which would come, but I believe it also applies here in the situation.

There will come a time of manifestation of God’s promises, if we just don’t quit. And believe you me, the enemy is at work to abort the dreams of God and the promises of God. When Moses was born, Pharaoh was stirred up by the enemy to wipe out all the firstborn of Egypt, because God had promised a great deliverer in Moses. When Jesus was born Herod was stirred up to kill all the babies in the Land, because God had promised a Savior.

God given dreams are the release of God’s destiny and purposes in our lives for planet earth and the enemy is at work to snuff them out. Today I want to encourage you that as you stand firm and continue to trust God and nurture those dreams. God will bring them to pass.

Don’t abort those dreams, don’t let your dreams become part of the graveyard of aborted dreams. Today I want to encourage you, God has a wonderful plan and purpose for your life, allow Him to reveal it to you, dare to dream God sized dreams, dare to believe God again, protect what He has placed on the inside of you, He will bring them to pass!
