Today I want spend a few moments considering the story of Noahs’ Ark. I love how God spoke to Noah and how he was so faithful to complete this seemingly impossible task. Scholars estimate it took him between 55 and 75 years to complete the Ark. All the while he preached righteousness in a wicked and persevere generation that had no fear of God and no faith in God. Wicked people don’t appreciate the preaching of righteous! Noah built an ark, preached righteous, obeyed God in the face of incredible adversity and his obedience provided a way for him and his family to escape the coming judgment.

Now God is a holy God and He saw the gross sin in the world and He was preparing to judge the world with a catastrophic flood. Genesis 6:5 tells us “The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.” God’s hatred for sin remains unchanged today. People ask me “How can a loving God send people to hell?” These people fail to understand that while God is a loving God, that He is also a holy God. He still has a holy hatred for sin.

Because of His love for humanity, God has provided a way to escape the judgement and fires of hell. He prepared an Ark in the form of His precious Son. In a similar way to Noah, Jesus lived a life of perfect obedience to God. Jesus became the Ark of salvation for all humanity. He was a preacher of righteousness. He warned people about the coming judgement and the fires of hell. Matthew 10:28 says “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

John 3:16 tells us “For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son, that whosoever believes in His should not perish but have eternal life.” God sent Jesus to become the Ark of salvation for all of humanity. When we leave this life and step into eternity, we know that our faith in Jesus will ensure we can escape the judgement of hell and step into the glories of heaven because we have entered through the Ark of salvation.

Now, once Noah had completed the Ark, God began drawing the animals two by two into the Ark. There was a supernatural work here drawing all the animals. As we have preached the Gospel in the nations of the world we have observed this pull, this drawing work of the Holy Spirit. Many people have testified, they don’t know why they came to our Gospel Events, something was drawing them. They were being drawn supernaturally to Jesus the Ark of salvation!

The Gospel is good news! There is to way of escape the coming judgement! Not every believed Noah, and not everyone will believe the Gospel when we present it, but we have the job of warning people, of telling them the good news – Jesus is the Ark of salvation! Jesus is the only way to escape the judgement of hell in the next life! What a wonderful, loving God we serve, a God who is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” (1 Peter 3:9) Let’s be those who continue to work diligently to ensure this good news get’s out!
